About this postcard

The Icelandic sheep is one of the oldest and purest sheep breeds in existence. Brought to Iceland by Norse settlers in the 9th century, they have been isolated from other breeds for over a thousand years, developing a double-layered fleece suited to the harsh winters and a temperament shaped by centuries of near-wild grazing in the highlands.

Every autumn, the whole country participates in the réttir — the sheep round-up, when horses and farmers gather the flocks from summer pastures in the highlands and sort them back to their home farms. It is one of Iceland's oldest communal traditions, still observed much as it has been for centuries.

Every Postcard.is design is a real image from Iceland — a place whose landscapes range from glaciers and waterfalls to volcanic deserts and midnight-sun coastlines. We print each card on quality postcard stock, add your personal message, and post it directly from Iceland with a genuine Icelandic stamp and postmark.
