About this postcard

Stokksnes is a headland on Iceland's southeast coast, just below the Vestrahorn massif — a cluster of dark, near-vertical peaks that rise straight from the black sand flats. When the tide comes in far enough, the mountains reflect in shallow lagoons, creating the kind of mirror image that stops photographers in their tracks.

Getting here requires a small toll and a short drive down a gravel track, which keeps the crowds thin. The reward is one of Iceland's few places where a vast, empty black sand beach meets serious mountain drama — no cliffs, no clutter, just sand and sky and those peaks.
