About this postcard
Iceland sits directly on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates pull apart at roughly 2.5 centimetres a year. The result is one of the most geologically active surfaces on earth: lava fields that look freshly cooled, fissures venting steam and sulphur, and a silence broken only by the wind and the hiss of geothermal activity.
The moss that covers the lava is remarkable in itself. Some of the older lava fields have been colonised over centuries by dense, cushion-soft moss that turns the black landscape electric green — particularly vivid on overcast days when the sky goes flat grey and every colour below it intensifies.
This postcard captures that particular quality of Icelandic light: dramatic, strange, and utterly unlike anywhere else. Printed and posted from Iceland with a genuine Icelandic stamp and postmark.
Every Postcard.is design is a real image from Iceland — a place whose landscapes
